Enteral and Parenteral Conscious Sedation Continuing Eduation Events

St. Louis Mo.   HEALTH-CARE : As the number of  out patient procedures continue to grow in the United States each year, the demand for easy access to quality training, continuing education, accreditation and certification for sedation providers also increases.  Physicians and dentists are realizing that the addition of sedation and analgesia services can greatly enhance their practices offerings by appealing to a greater patient population.  Which has been demonstrated in the explosive growth of “sleep dentistry” or “dental sedation” practices.  As well as in the substantial increases in the field of gastroenterology where steep rises in the number of endoscopic procedures are preformed in office.

In an effort to meet this sudden increased demand for quality, evidence based didactic training and education, a live continuing educational event on the administration of enteral and parenteral conscious sedation is being hosted nationally. This class is for physicians, dentists, podiatrists, nurses, hygienists and respiratory therapists involved in the administration of sedation and analgesia services in an out patient care setting. This entire “sedation team” approach has proven beneficial in fostering communication and  co-operation between health-care providers who offer patients sedation services.

 This is a comprehensive in depth didactic training class developed by a physician with 25 years experience as a board certified anesthesiologist. This course has been developed in accordance with core principles described in national accrediting organization standards and specialty society guidelines and covers all aspects of enteral and parenteral conscious (moderate) sedation and analgesia.

These events are hosted by Conscious Sedation Consulting of St. Louis MO.  The first few stops of the national 2009 educational event series is Jan. 31 in Kansas City MO., Feb. 28 Indianapolis IN, Mar. 28 Phoenix AZ. * Assess a patient and relative risks prior to a procedure that involves sedation;

* List the medications commonly used for sedation;

* Operate monitors and document patient status during the procedure and recovery;

* Recognize and effectively treat airway compromise;

* Intervene in a timely fashion to rescue and resuscitate the patient as needed;

After participants complete the course and review the accompanying materials, they are asked to take a post-test and demonstrate that they participated in the program. This software program automatically grades the tests. After passing the test, participants fill out the Sedation Compliance Statement, and become approved to administer sedation for a period of two years beginning when they pass the test and submit the results to the Department of Anesthesiology.
The post-test and evaluation of the program will also be the mechanism by which participants receive Continuing Medical (CME) &/or Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) credit.
